working together we will make a difference.”

What is the Homestead Landing Civic Association?

The HLCA is an organization of concerned neighbors working together to promote a sense of community. The HLCA is an organization of concerned neighbors working together to identify, clarify and communicate issues and problems of concern to the community and the town. The HLCA is an organization of concerned neighbors working together to seek solutions to the issues and problems of concern and build and maintain a better neighborhood for us all to live, work and play in.

How It All Began

The Homestead Civic Association was formed in the early 80's by concerned parents when the Homestead Elementary School was in danger of closing.  The group lobbied the town valiantly and won their case. Building on that momentum, the group shifted focus and began a neighborhood conservation program to better look after the best interest of their neighborhood.

Changing its name to the Homestead Landing Civic Association, the group expanded their scope of interest to include the entire Weymouth Landing area. In an effort to better maintain the character and safety of the neighborhoods, the HLCA has worked with community leaders and the Town Council to voice their concerns to the town on behalf of its members and neighborhood residents.

In 2002, new life was breathed in to the HLCA by a fresh group of residents of the Weymouth Landing neighborhoods. New issues such as the Greenbush commuter rail, urban sprawl, and community development now play a role in the Association's concerns.

What’s Happening Now

Through the efforts of the Greenbush Committee, The HLCA has stayed on top of the design and permitting process of the Greenbush Restoration Project and will continue to monitor the construction process to ensure that the best design possible is implemented in Weymouth Landing. It is of top level importance for the town to maintain the historical characteristics of the neighborhood and work to enhance the area to its fullest potential.

The Beautification Committee has taken on the task of sprucing up the Landing area, primarily the business district of Washington Street from Brookside Road to Lincoln Square.  The Committee participated in “Weymouth  Clean Up Day” and  with volunteers, swept the sidewalks, re-mulched the tree planting beds, removed  weeds and put out planters of flowers that were cared for by the businesses of the Landing through out the summer month’s. For the holiday season, the committee add’s lights to the Landing area as well as seasonal decorations.

The Park / Open Space and Waterfront  Committee is involved in the upgrade and restoration of parks in our jurisdiction. By working with the DPW  and sponsoring clean up events and regular maintenance programs, the parks are getting a much needed facelift. Looking to the future, the committee is formulating long range plans for the continued upgrade of our parks. Weymouth has a very special resource in the incredible waterfront. The committee is working at preserving that resource and utilizing its fullest potential. Open space is a resource that is quickly disappearing. Realizing the importance of such a commodity, the committee is advocating the preservation  of any and all open space in the town.

The Fund Raising Committee has worked relentlessly and tirelessly to come up with fund raising ideas in order to provide college scholarships to worthy individuals and to add the financial means to allow our community projects to continue. Funds are also designated to support the newsletter that goes out to all members to keep everyone up to date and on track.

The Public Safety Committee is currently establishing the most significant public safety issues facing our neighborhoods today. The committee is currently discussing public safety concerns related to the Greenbush restoration construction as well as troublesome intersections around our neighborhoods. The Public Safety Committee is working diligently with the town to make our neighborhoods a safer place to be and our streets a safer place to travel.
