Community Development Update

Greenbush

One aspect of the Commuter Rail project is the Connector Road  component in the Landing. Several years ago, Weymouth signed an agreement with the T to design and construct that component and the T would fund it. The project consists of the Connector Road (between Commercial Street and Quincy Ave, formely known as Tabor Court), the Smelt Brook Daylighting, the traffic lights at either end of the Connector Road and the parking areas behind the stores. Weymouth hired an engineer to design the project. This part of the project does not have a final design. Negotiations with the T over funding drove Weymouth to turn the project back to the T.  It is now February 2007 and the trains will be carrying folks to work before we know it.  It is distrubing that the design is so far behind schedule.

New Library Proposal Update

While this project is still at the feasibility stage, there are very strong feelings about the proposal.  The mayor will soon be awarding a contract to study Libby Field to determine if the site can accommodate a library and the necessary parking. If you have any thoughts or opinions on the matter, let us and the Mayor know. In the event the library on Broad Street is closed, what are some ideas for the building?

Tirrell Woods:

Ryder Development went before the Zoning Board of Appeals on Wednesday 03 January 2007, 7pm at the Whipple Center and unveiled the new proposal. Much to the surprise of all, Mr. Ryder has scaled back his project considerably. He is proposing 48 condo units adjacent to the highway, leaving the Nash homestead and leaving approximately 50 acres of open space.  He has also eliminated the skating rink proposal. Mr. Ryder’s project calls for the development of approximately 10% of the property. While the neighbors are delighted at the new plan, there are still a lot of questions and concerns that remain. The hearing was continued until 07 March 2007 at the Whipple Center conference room at 7 pm.
