“working
together, we will make a difference”
Committees:
Beautification: Chairperson – Jen
Burke
The Beautification Committee works with local volunteers and Town
officials to make the Weymouth Landing area a more welcoming community. The Committee holds annual events such as
spring and fall clean ups which include sweeping, weeding and planting flowers
and a December decoration project that brings additional cheer to the Landing
during the holiday season.
Parks / Open Space / Waterfront:
Chairperson – Colleen Kelley
The Park Committee is charged with
upgrading the parks in our jurisdiction. 3 successful park clean ups have been
held at Webb Park on Summit Street and is slowly being turned back into the
beautiful park it once was. At present, the committee is working on plans for an
overall park upgrade to Webb and
Fund Raising: Chairperson – Colleen Kelley
The fund raising committee organizes and
runs fund raising events. These funds are used to offer college scholarships to
high school graduates and to fund the community events in our neighborhoods. In
2003 we had a very successful yard sale and in 2004 we are embarking on our
calendar sale, “Travels Through Weymouth 2005”
Membership: Chairperson – Teresa
Quinton
The membership committee works diligently
to enlighten the community of the importance of the HLCA and the member
benefits it brings with it.
Newsletter: Chairman – Colleen Kelley
The Editor In Chief and her crack team of reporters
work diligently to prepare the newsletter then publishes and distributes the
latest news of the HLCA to its members.
Public Safety: Chairperson – Bob Collins and Peter Keohan
Public safety is of great concern to this community.
The PS Committee looks into safety concerns in the individual neighborhoods and
works with the local law enforcement officials to come up with solutions for
better safe guarding our neighborhoods and more importantly, our children. With
the construction of the Greenbush Commuter rail moving along at a rapid pace,
the traffic and parking impacts in our neighborhood will be taking center
stage. The PS Committee will be monitoring this issue closely to make sure this
concern is appropriately addressed.
Community Development:
Chairperson – Colleen Kelley
The Community Development committee keeps
an overall watch of the development of our neighborhoods and our community and
the town at large. The committee attends the public hearings and project
presentations and does not hesitate to ask the tough questions. The committee
also works with the town officials to make sure the projects are in keeping
with the long term vision of the town.
Scholarship: Chairperson – Colleen Kelley
The Scholarship Committee solicits
recipients for our scholarships. In the spring of each year, the scholarships
are advertised and all students, whether they are freshman or have a college
career in progress, are encouraged to apply. The committee reviews each
candidate and awards the scholarship.
Small Business: Chairperson – Colleen Kelley
The small business committee is working
with the merchants in different areas of the Landing area to bring a voice to
the business community. As change to the area continues, the small business
community is dedicated to being part of the process of change and working for
the betterment of the business community.
